WHAT IS XO?

XO is tic-tac-toe run as a knockout tournament for the whole channel. Players are paired off each round; win your board and you advance, lose and you are out. A drawn board eliminates both players, and each move has a short timer, so playing safe or slow is as fatal as losing.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Is XO the same as tic-tac-toe or noughts and crosses?
Yes — XO is Fizbo's tic-tac-toe. The board is a three-by-three grid of Discord buttons and the goal is the usual three in a row. What makes it different from playing on paper is the format: it is a knockout tournament for the whole channel, where Fizbo pairs everyone off, winners advance round after round, and losers are eliminated until one champion is left.
Does XO flood the channel with messages during a match?
No — the whole match lives in one message that Fizbo edits in place. The prompt above the grid names whose turn it is with “@player You have 10 seconds to play”, each pressed cell fills with its mark and greys out, and when someone completes a line the three winning cells light up before the next pairing is announced.
What is the difference between XO and HotXO?
XO is classic tic-tac-toe: marks stay on the board, so a game can fill up and end in a draw. HotXO adds a burn rule — each player only ever keeps their last three marks, and the oldest one vanishes the moment a fourth is placed. That means HotXO boards never fill, cells reopen mid-game, and a match can only end with a winner. If you want quick classic rounds, play XO; if you want longer, trickier duels, play HotXO.
What happens if an XO game ends in a draw?
Both players are eliminated. XO is a knockout bracket, so a drawn board does not get replayed in the early rounds — Fizbo announces that both players have been kicked due to the draw, and the tournament moves on without them. The only exception is the final round: since someone has to win the whole game, a drawn final is repeated until it produces a winner.
Can I change how long each player has to make a move in XO?
Yes. By default Fizbo gives each player 10 seconds to press a cell, and the server can tune this in the game's settings — shorter for panic-speed rounds or longer for more thoughtful play. The prompt above the board always states the configured time, and a player who lets it run out is ejected from the tournament, so the timer is enforced, not decorative.
